Announced almost 3 months ago and still no sign of them! What's happened to the Apple AirPods and are they worth waiting for?

Back in September Apple promised Australia the AirPods would be with us by the end of October. Well it's December - where the bloody hell are they?

According to Techcrunch, Apple have delayed the AirPods because they "need a little more time".

An Apple spokesperson said:

“The early response to AirPods has been incredible. We don’t believe in shipping a product before it’s ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers,”

Meanwhile the Apple website has removed the late October date and replaced it with the less specific "coming soon." Apparently, not soon enough for Christmas gifting!

Are AirPods worth waiting for?

No one is quite sure what the hold-up is, so should we keep waiting around for them to turn up - sometime?

According to Apple, of course we should.

"AirPods are simple and magical to use, with no switches or buttons, automatically connecting to all your Apple devices simply and seamlessly, and letting you access Siri with just a double tap. We can’t wait for users to try them with iPhone 7 and Apple Watch Series 2.”

We can't wait either, or can we?

Well after watching this round-up by The iPhone Show on IDG.tv, I will definitely be waiting.

BTW the price mentioned in the video of $159, that's American. In Australia the AirPods will be $229.

Here's my top five favourite features then check out the video below:

  1. Knows when you're listening: The Air Pods have a built-in sensor which knows when they are in your ears, and automatically pauses the music/audio when they are removed.
  2.  Knows when you're speaking: A voice accelerometer recognises when you are talking and works with a pair of beamforming microphones to filter out external noise and focus on the sound of your voice.
  3. 15 mins of charging equals 3 hours of battery life. And altogether you can get 5 hours of battery life on one charge and 24 hours from the charging case.
  4. Double tap Siri: Tap two times on the pod to activate Siri then speak normally. Get texts read out loud, or directions, or the answer to that question - all without getting your iphone out of your pocket
  5. Quick Sync: Automatically syncs with all Apple devices and can switch seamlessly between the devices.
