Turn your living room or office into a GP's waiting room.

TelstraHealth's ReadyCare gives patients swift access to a doctor by video or phone call, 24/7.

ReadyCare provides diagnosis, not just advice

No more Dr Google. ReadyCare is Australia’s first purpose-built telemedicine service.

The Telstra-backed service provides access to an Australian-based, registered doctor with at least five years' experience, by phone or video, 24/7.

Patients can receive a full diagnosis, care and treatment for over 600 conditions and illnesses.

They can also obtain referrals to specialists, have prescriptions sent direct to their local pharmacy for fulfillment and collection, and have medical certificates emailed direct to their inbox.

Targeted at professionals and workplaces

Telstra promotes the service for anyone who has difficulty getting to see a doctor face-to-face, but believes the service could be ideal for professionals, organisations and workplaces.

"Studies have found that in Australia each year over 88 million days are lost due to absenteeism, at a cost of $27.5 billion in sick leave costs and lost productivity. Imagine if you could provide your staff, members or customers easy access to a GP 24/7," says the Telstra website.

ReadyCare allows patients to see a doctor without leaving their lounge or office chair. It removes all the barriers to seeking help. No more time spent travelling, parking, and waiting in a doctor's surgery with other sick people.

Telstra leading technology-driven healthcare

TelstraHealth has been aggressive in developing new technology-driven healthcare channels.

"The way healthcare is delivered is changing. Telstra Health is embracing that change by developing solutions designed to build a better connected health system.

"We want to make healthcare easier for you through the use of technology. We want to increase convenience, lower costs, provide new choices and deliver a better experience. We want to make healthcare simpler."

ReadyCare is a joint venture with Medgate, of Switzerland, though Telstra is believed to own 80% of it. Telstra describes Medgate as the premier provider of telehealth services in Europe. ReadyCare uses the same technology and processes. One of those processes is the way that patients speak to an operator first, who works out whether a telehealth consult will suit the patient’s needs.

The doctors themselves sit in a special purpose-built telemedicine centre in Alexandria, just to the south of the Sydney CBD. About four doctors are in the clinic at any one time, and there are 20 doctors in total. All the doctors also work at brick-and-mortar clinics around Sydney. They’re overseen by a ‘chief medical officer’, Dr Armandeep Hansra. Dr Hansra has worked in telehealth for several years, most recently on the government’s Healthdirect GP helpline.
